Restructuring, Repairing, Renewing...

Our Paradise Art Center building very luckily escaped the Camp Fire, but we do have some cleanup to do before we can reopen to the public. We have a roof to repair, some cleanup to do, and a few other repairs to make. Also, some of our teachers have relocated, making our class schedule a bit in flux, but several of our classes will be restarting when we get our doors open

Be sure to check our website and/or our Facebook group for updated information on our reopening plans. In the meantime, we are offering free memberships until September 1, which gets you onto our email list, which is used for important announcements about the Art Center.

And... many thanks to all the members who have mobilized to help get numerous tasks completed during this process!

Teachers and Facilitators Meet and Greet

This past Saturday's Meet and Greet was well attended with a large group and perfect weather. Everyone had an opportunity to see the show in the Wheeler Gallery and enjoy visiting with one another.  The tables were festive with plenty of good eats and people were welcome to sit or stand and chat.  As a new member, it was a treat to be able to meet fellow artists, look at displayed work and share ideas and plans for new projects.  Definitely looking forward to next year's event!

Annual Teachers and Facilitators Show

Our 2017 Teachers and Facilitators Show opened with a Friday night Open House Preview. This annual art showcase gives our teachers a chance to display their creative endeavors, and this show did not disappoint. A variety of media including traditional watercolor and oil paintings and more experimental media such as alcohol ink, water prints, watercolor batik and more graced the walls of Wheeler Gallery with an explosion of color and style.

Many thanks to the teaching staff at Paradise Art Center for a great show!

Art in Action Collaborative Event

In September, Paradise Art Center
joined up with The Wine Room for a collaborative Art in Action event that turned out to be a great success! Art demonstrations, interactive art activities, refreshments, free champagne (courtesy of The Wine Room), and a successful live art auction entertained a crowd of people that spanned both venues.

Several Paradise Art Center artists volunteered their time and materials to demonstrate their expertise and teach participants how to work with a variety of media. Attendees were able to decorate wine glasses, create wine glass charms, work with alcohol inks, make greeting cards, and more.

We look forward to repeating this event next year!

Wheeler Gallery Shows

Imagination was on display in Wheeler Gallery during March, April, and May, as shown by the photos here. The Gallery Committee strives to develop themes that will push our members to grow as artists as well as tap into creative spaces they might not otherwise visit. The results have been great!

In March, we had a show with the theme "Two by Two" in which members were invited to try their hand at one of two options: creating a set of two related pieces, or working with another artist to create two pieces inspired by the same subject matter.

In April, the Fired Arts group put on a "Mad Hatter's Tea Party" that started with a free teapot-making event -- open to the public and free of charge -- and included a fancy reception to open the show.

Then in May, we wandered into the area of "Magical Realism" with art works that combined realism with fantasy. Our members really came through on this one with a huge variety of amazing works.

Wheeler Gallery generally has a new show every month. Some shows are media-based, while others are themed shows open to all media. All regular shows are open to all members, who can exhibit for free. There is no charge for visitors to view any shows in Wheeler Gallery. For a schedule of monthly shows, visit our website: www.paradise-art-center.com

See you in Wheeler Gallery!

Celebrating Chocolate with Art

For our February Wheeler Gallery show, Paradise Art Center member artists were joined by artists who had contributed to the 2016 Paradise Chocolate Fest Cookbook for a collaborative art show celebrating chocolate. This exhibition included a many styles, media, and subject matter that included, depicted, or represented chocolate in some way.

The show opened with a well-attended reception on February 4th. Visitors were able to enjoy a wide variety of chocolate treats and to purchase copies of the Chocolate Fest cookbooks.

Paradise Art Center member artists who participated in this show were invited to exhibit their art at the next Paradise Chocolate Fest, completing this collaborative circle.

Sealing the Time Capsule

Our time capsule has been sealed! Treasurer Vicki Farrell and President Cathryn Hudin took care of this task at the February board meeting. While time capsules are usually buried, this one will remain in display at the art center until it's time to open it in September, 2066.
